How To Embrace Change In Your Life.

Change is my friend.  It is a gentle reminder that there are greater things in store for me.

I am comfortable with change.  Although I enjoy stability, I appreciate the excitement that comes from venturing out to try something new.   I am easily bored when I am stuck in the rut of the familiar.  Change keeps me fresh.

My life benefits from change because I can grow and stretch.  Change opens my eyes and expands my vision to see things I didn’t see before.

Embrace change

Embrace Change - Autumn leaves must fall to make way for new growth in Spring.

Change keeps me on my toes, waiting in excited anticipation for what is going to happen next.  I choose not to close my eyes because I will miss something.  My eyes are open to many wonderful things when I look for change.

Change acts as a driving force and helps keep me moving ahead.  Trying new experiences and strategies helps me move faster because I am more motivated.

I am able to tackle greater challenges that I otherwise never would attempt were it not for change. Change is an indicator that I am on my way to reaching my goals.  Change helps me see the larger scope of work for me.

My impact on the world is much greater when I embrace change.  I find I have a higher purpose and calling that involves getting out of my comfort zone and stepping up to the plate.

The course of my life changes as my abilities increase and I attempt new challenges that meet my new abilities.

Self-Reflection Questions:
1. Do I embrace change?
2. Are there things in my life that are crying for change?
3. How has change helped me grow in the past five years?

How to Stay Focused on Losing Weight

What is the hardest thing you have ever tried to do? If you ask 100 people from all walks of life, I’d bet the majority would mention losing weight.

Losing weight can be challenging because we all want to shed the extra pounds just in time for Sally’s wedding or next weekend’s beach trip. Even though it took time to put on the weight, somehow we want it to magically disappear instantly. The reality is that losing weight takes time for everyone. You’re not alone!

You CAN stay focused on losing weight!

You CAN stay focused on losing weight!

Unfortunately, weight doesn’t just fall off our bodies, and that’s why most of us find it difficult to stay focused on our weight loss goals. Fortunately, there’s a solution and it all begins with a positive mindset.

Weight Loss Affirmations and You
The problem that many of us have is that when the weight doesn’t disappear right away, we get frustrated or discouraged, and then we easily give into temptation. We have all had those, “Nothing’s ever going to work so I might as well just eat” thoughts that set us back when we are just getting started in the weight loss process.

Instead of allowing these thoughts to plant a seed in your mind, you can use affirmations to positively react to negative thoughts. Doing so will also serve as a reminder of your goal. Weight loss affirmations can help you shed pounds by encouraging you to stay focused and motivated, even in times of struggle and disappointment.

Defeating Self-Defeating Thoughts
We all want to think we have the self-control needed to lose weight. However, when the weight loss takes more work or time than we expected it’s easy to get discouraged and give in. The problem is that when we get frustrated or impatient, we lose sight of why we initially started on the journey. If you decide to give up or are tempted by a forbidden food, you can pull up your list of affirmations and use them to combat the self-defeating thoughts and attitudes.

When you are about to quit and get that bucket of ice cream, you can tell yourself, for example, “If I stumble, it’s okay! I have already made the conscious decision that I will not revert to old habits.” When you say this aloud, you are taking power back from the negative thoughts and replacing them with positive ones. Taking back this power is a key step in re-establishing control over your negative actions. Besides, it’s okay to stumble along the way. Overcoming obstacles only makes your victory even sweeter!

When you use weight loss affirmations, you will suddenly realize the power of words.

When you use weight loss affirmations, you will suddenly realize the power of words. Affirmations help you replace negative thoughts and actions so you can combat the cravings and deal with frustrations and pain directly without resorting to food.

The greatest thing about affirmations is that they can be used any time of the day or night. After all, they will become embedded into your subconscious! The more you use them, the more your behavior and decisions will change, and the more power you will have over self-defeating thoughts.

Quick and Simple Brain Exercises

Brain exercises boost your effectiveness.

Brain exercises boost your effectiveness.

Did you know that the brain acts like the muscles in the body? Every time you use your brain, it becomes stronger and more effective. Just like working out, your brain will become more responsive, efficient, and effective when you do brain exercises. You will simply feel stronger, sharper, and more attentive than ever before.

Brain Exercises for You to Try
Some brain exercises may make you feel a little silly at first, but they are worth all of the perceived embarrassment and uneasiness. Try to put any worries aside while you exercise your mind. You’ll soon notice benefits that you couldn’t possibly have experienced any other way.

One of the best brain exercises is simple but effective: Step outside of your comfort zone and learn something new. Even if you pick up a new book about something you knew nothing about before, you are exercising your brain and using parts of it that you may have never used before. Learning really does exercise the brain. Just think of all the exercise you’ve given your mind since you were a child!

Sharpen Your Mind Through Song
You may not be aware of this, but singing is another way to exercise your brain. When you are encountering a problem or are thinking about solutions, try singing through it. Singing uses a different part of the brain than speaking does, so when you sing through your concerns, you are giving the other side of your brain a workout! You may also find that you are able to uncover more creative solutions or unique answers to plaguing questions than ever before.

Engage In Some Mind Benders
Puzzles are a great way to put your brain to work. Putting together a puzzle is not only a relaxing and fun way to spend your time, but it also helps you use your brain in a unique way that you wouldn’t typically do. Pick up a new puzzle every once in a while and have fun putting it together while you give your brain a workout!

Boost your mind skills with a crossword.

Boost your mind skills with a crossword.

You can also try crossword puzzles, Sudoku, or word searches. These all are great ways to become a more efficient and effective thinker, but they are also fun! By engaging your mind in rigorous exercise, you will reap significant benefits in terms of your health, happiness, and productivity. Who would say no to that?

Creating a Healthy Mindset
Another way to exercise your brain is to create a healthy mindset. We all have negative thoughts that hold us back from doing the things that we need to do. One way to exercise your mind is to replace negative thoughts with positive ones. You can do this by repeating positive affirmations or motivational quotes throughout your day. Or perhaps you can print your favorite quotes and tape them to your fridge, bathroom mirror, computer screen, or other places that will get your constant attention.

The more you use positive statements, the healthier you will feel. This exercises your mind in the most positive way, and is a way that truly could change your life, one thought at a time!

6 Easy Ways To Simplify Your Life

When you are stressed out and you can’t seem to find a moment of peace for yourself, you probably need to simplify your life. We often make our lives more difficult than they need to be, so when we dial it down a notch and make things simpler, our stress levels will fall rapidly and our life will be much more enjoyable.

Many times we think everything is of equal importance in our lives, but there are some great ways to evaluate what really matters so we can gain a new perspective on life.

Ways to Simplify Your Life

1. Determine what is important.
Make a list of all activities you have going on in your life right now. You should look at the first four or five and make sure that you are putting more of your energy into these things. It is the first four or five things in your life such as your relationship, family, and work that should get the most emphasis on a day-to-day basis. Once you make this list, it’s a whole lot easier to see where you’re spending most of your time (and where you should be spending more time).

2. Reconsider your commitments.
Many times we simply over-commit ourselves. You should look at the “extras” in your life and see how they align with the things that are most important to you. If there are things that you are committed to doing that you don’t enjoy or don’t add meaning to your life, consider giving them up. You can reduce stress and make your life more relaxed when you release yourself from commitments that are only tying you down.

3. Say no.
Many times when we’re stressed it’s because we don’t know how to say no to the people in our lives. Saying no to kids, family, friends, and even the boss is important. I know it can be tough to say no, but you can say it with grace or by delegating the request to another capable person. If you’re finding it difficult to stay firm, remember that you are not superman or superwoman. You can’t possibly take on the world by yourself!

4. Simplify your work.
Every day when you’re at work you likely have a 10-page to-do list. In reality, there are things that just aren’t all that important and aren’t worth the effort. And yes, there will be some things that you’ll never get around to. That’s okay! Accept that fact and re-evaluate your activities to determine what is really essential and do away with the rest.

5. Involve your family.
There is as much to do at home as there is at work. Make your family your team and involve them in the home activities. Get everyone involved in the little tasks around the home such as taking out the trash, dusting, and doing the dishes. For example, you can require that each family member pick up 20 things around the house before bed. This way, cleaning the house is a lot easier and you can spend more of your time relaxing instead of worrying about every little task around the home.

6. Clear the clutter.
In your home and office there are probably a lot of things that are cluttering your space. Everything must have its place – even if it’s in the trash! When you clear the clutter from your space, you’ll find that cleaning, finding things, and simply going about your daily life is a lot simpler and a whole lot less stressful.

As you can see, simplifying your life does not have to be difficult. You just need to get back to basics and do away with everything else. Living a simple life is living a happier, less stressed life and that’s something that we can all aspire to do.

Techniques for setting effective goals help you achieve whatever you want.

Techniques for setting effective goals help you achieve whatever you want.

Many people falsely believe the goals they set are far out of reach.  Other people believe they just aren’t good at setting goals and sticking to them, so they don’t even bother trying. The real problem, more often than not, is that the goals are unclear or unrealistic.

No matter where you are in life you can use your current place as a starting point for great success. All you need to do is learn how to set clear, concise, and actionable goals that push you forward and build momentum.

There are some simple strategies and tools you can implement that will help you set your goals and accomplish more. So let’s begin!

Goal Setting Made Easy
You need to remember that you will be constantly setting new goals for yourself throughout your life. Many people become discouraged because they feel that every time they reach one goal, they still have even more work in front of them. Unless you want to reach a goal and stand still for the rest of your life, it is a good thing to always be setting and revising your goals!  Doing this means that you will continue to move forward, become a better person, and accomplish greater things.

When setting goals, you should take a moment to envision where you will be and what you will be doing in a month, six months, a year, five years, and ten years. A problem that many people have is that they set huge goals for five years from now.  Although it is great to have lofty goals, if they are too ambitious you may feel easily intimidated or discouraged. For this reason, you need to set small goals all along the way so you can continue to motivate yourself and build momentum.

When setting goals, you should take a moment to envision where you will be and what you will be doing in a month, six months, a year, five years, and ten years.

Short-term goals are just as important as long-term goals, and this is one of the most important things that you should keep in mind when setting goals. Create goals for yourself every few months so that when you reach them, you will feel accomplished and excited to reach the next goal. These shorter-term goals are like stepping stones; they will keep you excited about the future and push you forward in moments of doubt or frustration.

Another thing I like to do is set process goals, rather than outcome goals. Instead of focusing on outcomes (often due to factors that are out of your control), focus on the process. An example would be walking a mile every day, or calling five extra customers every week, or saving an extra $5 a week for a holiday. All of these things, which contribute to longer-term outcomes, are also completely under your control. This allows you to make a commitment to yourself, and experience the power of keeping it. It also empowers you, because there is nothing stopping you from performing these goals except yourself.

You can also use the power of affirmations to help you create the positive mindset you need to get things done faster. Affirmations will help you keep a positive attitude while you work hard to reach your goals. Affirmations are short, concise, positive statements that you can repeat to yourself as often as needed to help you reprogram your mind, while focusing on the positive in your life.

As you develop your affirmations, you may want to think about where you want your goals to take you. Examples of goal-setting affirmations can be as simple as, “I am focused on my goals and dreams,” or, “I have well-structured goals and stick to my deadlines.” It seems rather simple – and it is – but this way of thinking will help you set and reach the important milestones in your life, while making you more resilient to any obstacles along way.

When you wake up, do you immediately look forward to going back to bed? When the alarm goes off does it seem as though you just closed your eyes? If you answered yes, then it’s time to get a good night sleep! After all, it’s amazing what a restful night’s sleep can do for your body.

Getting enough sleep is good for your health.

Getting enough sleep is good for your health.

Battling chronic exhaustion will either force you to find ways to get more rest or it’ll bring on ill health. Naturally, you’ll want to develop an effective sleep routine before your body forces you to rest!

Try some of these sleep tips so you can get a better night’s sleep and wake up feeling energized:

1. Make your bedroom your sanctuary. Keep your bedroom neat and quiet so you feel calm upon entering. Your bedroom needs to be a getaway from the stress of the day. When a TV is on, even if you aren’t watching it, the light output feels almost as great as the sun. This confuses your body and makes it hard to “shut down” even after you’ve turned off the screen.

  • If you have a TV or a home office in your bedroom, it will interfere with your ability to go to sleep. Move the television out of the bedroom or at the very least, try placing a sheet over it so you’re not tempted to watch it before bed.

2. Keep your room dark. Your body is designed to sleep when it’s dark. If you’re not used to this, try it for a while anyway. Children are used to sleeping with a light on but you’ll soon realize that it’s a huge distraction in getting to sleep. Pull the curtains closed, turn off all the lights, shut your door, then sleep like you’re hibernating!

  • Many stores sell “blackout” curtains that block out the sunlight so the room remains dark. Consider using these curtains to fully darken the room.

3. Exercise during the day. Exercising during the day releases stress hormones to help you feel more relaxed. Most forms of exercise will pep you up and give you more energy immediately afterwards so make sure you exercise well ahead of bedtime.

  • The energy you receive from daytime exercise will give you more restful nights because your body will be less stressed and more relaxed. You’ll be giving your body a total makeover!
  • Even though yoga is considered relaxing, it may keep you awake if done in the evening hours. Plan your exercise routine either in the morning or late afternoon.

4. Make yourself a bedtime routine. This doesn’t only work with kids. If you get in the habit of going to bed at a certain time, your body will expect to be sleeping. Some recommend milk right before bed, as it contains the sleep inducing chemical tryptophan.

  • Create a bedtime routine that involves things that make you tired, such as soft music, a warm shower, light reading material, or journaling.
  • Television stimulates the mind too much, which can cause difficulty sleeping. Try recording your favorite nighttime TV shows to watch the next day, rather than staying up late.

5. Leave daytime stress outside. In order to rest, you’ll want to put aside things that keep your mind whirling. By keeping a calendar of things to do the next day, you can put your mind to rest.

Make sure you’ve dealt with all the questions that keep you awake – what bills need to be paid, what time the doctor appointment is, and so on, before you lay down. This frees you up for sleep. writing it down often helps.

Once you’ve learned to rest well at night, you’ll experience a huge improvement in your quality of life. No more yawning through the mornings and the groggy, grumpy you will be replaced with an energetic person ready to take on life.

So what are you waiting for? Start a relaxing bedtime routine tonight and wake up feeling refreshed tomorrow!
